in Rainsville has reopened. It was formerly called Thunder Mountain Speedway.
Spring, 2006 - Montgomery Motor Speedway
closed. The property is now now used for storage.
Spring, 2007 - The New Childersburg Speedway
in Childersburg has suspended operations for the time being.

Arizona
Spring, 2006 - Mohave County Speedway in Lake
Havasu City is scheduled to reopen as Havasu 95 Speedway.
Spring, 2006 - West Valley Speedway will not reopen in 2008.
Arkansas
Spring, 2008 - The America Motor Speedway
in Fort Smith is scheduled to open in 2008. It is a 4/10 mile dirt oval.
California
Spring, 2006 - Blythe Raceway changed
it's name to Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway.
Spring, 2008 - The new Kern's
County New Home To NASCAR in Bakersfield is planning on opening in the
summer. The new 1/2 mile tri-oval paved oval replaces Mesa Marin Speedway which
closed a few years ago.
Summer, 2007 - Los Angeles County Raceway, a 1/4 mile dragstrip, closed
on July 29, 2007. The property will be used for something else.
Spring, 2006 - The Pomona Raceway has been rechristen Auto Club
Raceway at Pomona.
Sept 16, 2006 -
Stockton 99 Speedway closed after the 2006 season. It was sold for an
industrial park.
Spring, 2006 - Watsonville Speedway
is under new management. The name has been changed to Ocean Speedway.
Colorado
Spring, 2007 - El Paso County Speedway
opened in 2007 - It is a 1/4 mile dirt oval located in Calhan.
Spring, 2007 - It was announced that the Grand Prix of Denver will be suspended for at least two years because a suitable date was not available.
Connecticut
Spring, 2007 - Mototown USA
opened. It is a 1/8 mile dirt indoor oval located in Windsor.
Delaware
Spring, 2006 - Georgetown Speedway
reopened after setting idle since 2000. It will not be operating in 2008
Florida
Spring, 2006 - An annual race called the
Avon Park Rotary Legend Challenge in Avon Park held it's last event. The
event was suspended in 2007 because of lack of funding.
Spring, 2007 - Blackman Motor Speedway in Baker is scheduled to reopen in 2007. It sat idle in 2006.
January 28, 2007 - County Line Dragway in Opa-Locka held it's first race. The track is located at the old Opa-Locka West Airport
Georgia
Spring, 2007 - Albany Motor Speedway
in Albany has reopened as Suicide Circle Speedway. It sat idle in 2006.
Spring, 2006 - Gordon Park Speedway reopened. It is now being called The New Gordon Park Speedway.
Spring, 2006 - The new Savannah River Dragway in Sylvania is scheduled to
open in 2006.
Spring, 2006 - Southern Dragway in Douglas changed it's name to
Douglas Motorsports Park. The new management also reopened the oval
track, which hadn't operated since 1979. The oval track used to be called Teresa
Speedway.
Hawaii
Spring, 2006 - Hawaii Motor Speedway
was sold and will become an industrial park.
Idaho
Spring, 2005 - Rock Creek Race
Track in Kimberly begins running 600cc midgets on a 1/8 mile dirt oval.
Illinois
Summer, 2006 - Godfrey Speedway was sold and will be dismantled to make a
truck terminal.
Spring, 2007 - Mount Vernon Raceway
in Mount Vernon has reopened and is now called Jefferson County Raceway.
Indiana
Spring, 2006 - Indianapolis Raceway
Park now has a corporate sponsor and it was been renamed O'Reilly
Raceway Park
Spring, 2006 - Plymouth
Speedway will reopen under new management after setting idle in 2005.
Spring, 2005 - It was announced that the RCA Dome in Indianapolis has temporarily ceased operations. Major reconstruction will close the huge arena until 2009.
Summer, 2007 - In a surprise move Mike Bird shut down South Bend Motor Speedway for the rest of the summer.
Iowa
Spring, 2005 - It was announced that the Allison
Speedway will change it's name to Highway 3 Raceway starting in 2005.
Summer, 2007 - The Clay County Speedway in Spencer shortened it's 1/2 mile dirt oval into a 3/8 mile dirt oval.
Spring, 2007 - Hawkeye Raceway in Blue Grass was sold for development. The track closed after the 2007 season.
September, 2006 - The new Iowa Speedway near Newton opened. It is a 7/8 mile paved oval.
April 21, 2007 - The road course at
Iowa Speedway opened with Grand American Sports Cars
Kansas
Spring, 2007 - Caney Valley Speedway
in Caney reopened in 2007. It had sat idle since 2004.
Spring, 2006 - Minneapolis Raceway Park in Minneapolis opened in the spring of 2006. It is a 3/8 mile dirt oval.
Spring, 2007 - Oberlin Speedway
in Oberlin has suspended operations for the time being.
Spring, 2007 - Osborne Speedway
in Osborne has suspended operations for the time being.
Spring, 2007 - Rooks County Speedway
in Stockton has suspended operations for the time being.
Spring, 2006 - A 3/8 mile oval was added at the
Ellis County Fairgrounds in Hays. The new track is called RPM Speedway,
which is short for Rolling Plains Motor Speedway.
Spring, 2007 - Salina Speedway
in Salina has suspended operations for the time being.
Spring, 2007 - Solomon Valley Raceway in Beloit is scheduled to reopen in
2007. It is at the Mitchell County Fairgrounds and has sat idle in 1996.
Kentucky
Fall, 2006 - The all new High
Bank Speedway in Utica is scheduled to open in the spring of 2007.
Spring, 2007 - Willard Speedway
in Willard has suspended operations for the time being. Vandal did extensive
damage to the track in the fall of 2006.
Louisiana
Spring, 2008 - The former Hickory Motor Speedway is
reopening under the name of A-1 Raceway.
Spring, 2007 - Dixie Speedway
in Farmerville is scheduled to reopen in 2007. It has sat idle since 2004.
Spring, 2007 - The property that Louisiana Raceway, a 1/4 mile dragstrip in Eunice, was sold and will become a development.
Spring, 2008 - The all new Monroe Speedway, 1 3/8 mile paved oval is schedule to open this summer.
Maine
Summer, 2007 - It was announced that
the Spud Speedway in Caribou would reopen after setting idle since 2000.
Maryland
Fall, 2005 - It was announced that
the 75-80 Dragway in Monrovia was being sold for a housing development.
Michigan
December, 2005 - The DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, a new indoor venue,
opens with a Late Model race on 12/15/2005. The track ran in 2005 and 2006,
before mismanagement was it's doom.
Spring, 2008 - Dixie Motor Speedway will switch to Saturday night racing for
2008.
Summer, 2005 - The 1/2 mile dirt track at the Ionia Fairgrounds Speedway
reopened after setting idle for a number of years.
Spring, 2008 - I-96 Speedway will switch to Saturday night racing for
2008.
Minnesota
Spring, 2008 - Rock County Speedway
in Luverne is scheduled to reopen in 2008.
Mississippi
Spring, 2007 - George & Lizzie Smith
announced the opening of their track called Checkered Flag Dragstrip in
Hermanville.
Spring, 2007 - Pine Ridge Speedway
in Baldwyn has suspended operations for the time being.
Fall, 2005 - It was announced that Queen City Speedway would cease
operations at the end of 2005.
Spring, 2006 - Whynot Speedway reopened in 2006. It last ran in 1998. It is being revitalized because of the
demise of Queen City Speedway
Missouri
Spring, 2007 - Auto Tire & Parts Race Park
in Benton is scheduled to reopen in 2007. It sat idle in 2006.
Fall, 2005 - The Bethany Fair Speedway in Bethany reopened for a fair race. The 3/8 mile dirt track sat idle for three years.
November, 2006 - I-70 Speedway
in Odessa adds a new 1/4 mile dirt oval. It is located behind the grandstands of
the big track.
Summer, 2007 - The Washington Town & County Fairgrounds in Washington
added an 1/8 mile dirt oval, and ran a POWRi Mini-sprint race.
Spring, 2006 - The former
Wheatland Speedway,
is now called Lucas Oil
Speedway. Major renovations now makes it one of the finest dirt tracks in
the country.
Montana
Spring, 2005 - Intermountain Motor Sports
Park in Acton has been renamed to Yellowstone Drag Strip.
Nebraska
Spring, 2007 - Alliance Speedway
in Alliance has suspended operations for the time being. They only ran three
races in 2006.
Spring, 2005 - It was announced that the Thunder
Lake Speedway in Rising City will change it's name to Butler County Motorplex
for 2005.
Spring, 2005 - Oregon Trail Speedway changed it's name to HiWay 92 Raceway Park
for 2005.
Nevada
Fall, 2005 - It was announced that
the property that Champion Speedway in Carson City was sold for
development. The track, formerly known as T-Car Speedway, ran from 1963 to 2005.
Fall, 2007 - It was announced that the dirt oval at Reno-Fernley Raceway would be revamped and made into an asphalt oval. The project will not be complete until 2009.
New Jersey
January, 2006 - The wrecking ball
started to dismantle Flemington Speedway. It had set idle since 2000.
Spring, 2008 - A
new road course called New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville is
scheduled to open this summer.
March, 2008 - It was announced that Wall Township Speedway will close.
It's last race was the Turkey Derby in November.
New Hampshire
Spring, 2006 - The Pines Speedway in
Wentworth has changed it's name to Legion Speedway.
New Mexico
Fall, 2005 - Area 51 Dragway is the
new name for the former Roswell Dragway.
Spring, 2007 - Gallup Speedway Park in Gallup will not operate in 2007.
New York
August, 2005 - The owners of Glad
Rag Speedway ceased operations of their oval track citing lack of
cooperation with the competitors.
Spring, 2008 - Skyview Dragway is planning on adding a 3/8 mile dirt oval
to replace the old Tioga Motorsports Park that closed in 2006.
North
Carolina
Spring, 2007 - The oval track at Wayne County Speedway
in Pikeville will not operate in 2007. The dragstrip will continue to operate.
North
Dakota
Spring, 2005 - It was announced that the the new
owners of the former SAAGA Speedway will change it's name to Devil's Lake Speedway
for 2005.
Ohio
Spring, 2006 - Hilltop Speedway
in Millersburg reopened in 2006. The 3/8 mile dirt oval last ran in 1970.
Summer 2007 - The brand new Moler
Raceway Park in Williamsburg opens.
Oklahoma
Spring, 2007 - Salina Highbanks Speedway
in Salina has suspended operations for the time being.
Spring, 2006 - West Siloam Speedway will reopen in 2006.
Oregon
Spring, 2005 - It was announced that the Southern
Oregon Dragway will change it's name to Champion Raceway for 2005.
Pennsylvania
Spring, 2008 - The fate of
Latrobe Speedway
in Latrobe is uncertain. It does not look like it will operate in 2008.
May, 2007 - The passing of Ben "Red"
Miley, who owned Motordrome Speedway and Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania
Motor Speedway caught most people by surprise. He died of cancer. He was
only 53.
January, 2006 - Silver Spring
Speedway in Mechanicsburg was sold. The property will become a shopping
mall.
Summer, 2007 - Sportsman's Speedway in Knox reopened in 2006. It host
dirt track racing on Sunday nights.
Summer, 2006 - Wyalusing Valley Motorsports
Park in Wyalusing opened in 2006. It is a 1/5 mile dirt oval.
South Carolina
Spring, 2007 - The brand new 3/8 mile
paved
oval called Dillon Motor Speedway opened. It used to be a dirt
track which last ran in 1980.
Spring, 2007 - Lowcountry Dragway near Charleston was sold for development and ceased operation after a few races in 2007.
Fall, 2006 - Riverside Speedway in Travelers Rest closes. The property was reportedly sold for development.
South Dakota
March, 2008 - Lake County Speedway in
Madison was sold for a development. It will be dismantled.
September, 2005 - Miller Speedway reopen after setting idle since 1989.
Tennessee
Fall, 2006 - It was announced that Atomic Motor Speedway
in Oak Ridge was sold and will become a truck terminal.
Spring, 2007 - Cookeville Speedway in Cookeville is scheduled to reopen in 2007. It sat idle in 2006. It was formerly known as Tennessee Motor Speedway.
Spring, 2007 - It was announced that Four-Eleven Motor Speedway will change to a dirt track for 2007.
Spring, 2007 - The Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville is scheduled to reopen in 2007 as a dirt track. It was formerly known as Smoky Mountain Raceway, and sat idle in 2006.
Texas
Spring, 2007 - 105 Speedway in
Cleveland is scheduled to reopen in 2007. It sat idle in 2006.
Summer, 2007 - Amarillo Dragway reopened after setting idle suring 2006.
Summer, 2006 - Battleground Speedway
near Houston has suspended operations after running a few times in 2006.
Summer, 2007 - The brand new Eagles
Canyon Raceway, Which is a 2.5 mile paved road course in Slidell.
Spring, 2008 - The new GrandSport Speedway, a road course in Hitchcock, is scheduled to open in 2008.
Spring, 2007 - Hill Country Speedway in Mountain Home is scheduled to reopen in 2007. It sat idle in 2006.
Spring, 2007 - Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale reopened in 2007. It sat idle in 2006.
Spring, 2005 - It was announced that the Rosebowl Speedway will change it's name to Texas D.I.R.T. Motorplex for 2005.
Summer, 2007 - San Angelo Dragway reopened after setting idle since 2003.
Spring, 2007 - San Antonio Speedway was annexed into the city of Houston, and couldn't meet the new strict requirements, so the track ceased operations after having operated since 1977.
Spring, 2007 - Texas Thunder Speedway
in Alvin has suspended operations for the time being. It only ran one race in
2006.
Utah
Spring, 2006 - The new Diamond Mountain Speedway
in Vernal is set to open in 2006. It is a 3/8 mile dirt oval.
Spring, 2005 - It was announced that
the Horseshoe Mountain Raceway in Ephraim will not operate in 2005.
Summer, 2006 - Miller Motorsports Park, in Tooele, one of the newest road courses in the country opened. The 4.5 mile course was designed by Alan Wilson.
Virginia
Spring, 2008 - Lonesome Pine Speedway
is set to reopen after setting idle since 2005.
Spring, 2007 - The new Rolling Thunder Raceway in Ararat is scheduled to open in 2007. It is a 3/8 mile dirt oval.
Washington
Summer, 2006 - Fred Brownfield, the promoter of
Grays Harbor Raceway Park, was tragically killed in an incident at the
track.
West Virginia
Fall, 2004 - O'Brion Oval Speedway in
Duck opened. It is a 1/4 mile dirt oval.
Wisconsin
January, 2008 - Cedar Lake
Speedway announced it has built an indoor facility called the Amsoil Sandbox
Arena. They will hold Midget and Modified racing inside the new venue.
June, 2007 - It was announced that Fox Ridge Speedway would suspend it's weekly racing. A late year special is scheduled for September.
Fall, 2006 - Lake Geneva Raceway ran it's last race. The property was
sold and will become a development.
Spring, 2007 - The former
Raceway at
Powercom in Beaver Dam is now being
called Charter Raceway Park.
Summer, 2006 - Tri-Oval Speedway in Fountain
City reopened in 2006. It last ran in 2001.
Fall, 2007 - Tomahawk Speedway
was converted from an asphalt track to a dirt track, and will reopen in 2008 for
Friday night racing..
Wyoming
June 10, 2006 - Big Muddy Raceway Park
in Glenrock opened. It is a 1/4 mile dirt oval. It is now called Valentine
Speedway.
Spring, 2007 - The fate of
Sheridan Speedway
in Sheridan is unknown. No races are scheduled for 2007.
CANADA

Summer, 2006 - The former Budweiser Motorsports Park has been
renmaed the Castrol Raceway.
Summer, 2005 - Central Alberta Raceways in
Rimbey opens it's 3/8 mile dirt oval.
British Columbia
Spring, 2006 -
It was announced that Cranbrook International Speedway might not open in 2006.
The property was sold for development, but the track would be available for rent
in 2006.
Newfoundland
Nova Scotia
Spring, 2005 - Lake Doucette Motor Speedway in
Salmon River converts it's 3/8 mile dirt oval into an asphalt track.
Ontario
Summer, 2007 - The all new Calabogie
Motorsports Park opens. It is a 3 mile road course.
Spring, 2006 - Ottodome Int'l Speedway
will revert back to it's old name of Capital City Speedway.
Prince Edward Island
Quebec
Summer, 2005 - Circuit Francois Beland in Beautry opened it's dirt oval.
Saskatchewan
Summer, 2006 - The all new Auto
Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon opens to replace the former Bridge City
Speedway.
Yukon
Spring, 2004 - K.R.A. Speedway in
Whitehorse will not open. It is in financial problems when the club's treasury
turns up missing.
